Goals for 2008.

I don't really believe in New Year's Resolutions, because to me, it sounds negative to talk about the things you want to change in your life... as if you're focusing on the things you didn't do well, or bad habits you have. I prefer to call them goals, and here are my "Goals for 2008": things that I want to achieve in the coming year... putting a positive spin on the traditional New Year's resolution.

I'm posting my goals, publicly, online, on this here blog. This is to keep me on my toes, because these goals are no longer just secret goals in my head, but out there, in writing, for others to see, and hopefully, keep me accountable.

1. Get back into volleyball.
Only those who have known me since high school know that I was an avid volleyball player once upon a time ago. I played JV and Varsity volleyball at Holy Names High School, as well as Club volleyball with Club Kalani. I officiated middle school volleyball, and also coached 8th grade girls volleyball while in high school. Volleyball was my life... I played at least 3-4 hours daily, and during club season, traveled to tournaments every weekend. (I have the skinny pictures to prove it!) Anyhow, the goal is to get back in shape, play open gym, and eventually try to coach girls' volleyball. That's a big goal, but I can do it.

2. Learn to play the guitar.
So much bigger than the ukulele, thus, a very scary instrument for me. My fingers don't seem to be able to reach all the strings. I will learn. I WILL FACE YOU, GUITAR.

3. Read my Bible.
I must confess, my Bible has not been opened in a while. Actually, I haven't cracked open any book in awhile. (I guess that's what happens in the days of podcasts and blogs.)

4. Read to Evan daily.
I should be reading to Evan more often so he can learn more words. Not to mention, it's great mother-son bonding time.

5. Evan's Albums and My Wedding album:
Been married three years. Wedding pics are still sitting on DVDs waiting to be printed. Evan's almost one. Haven't scrapped one page for him. I do regret not doing Evan's baby album month-by-month, because now, I look back, and it's harder to remember when every little thing happened. (Advice: after you have your newborn, keep a journal with you to write down every little thing... even if you think it's not important. You'll look back later and be glad you did.) Anyhow, I have some catch-up to do.

6. Slow down, and take time everyday to just sit and enjoy a moment with Evan and Desmond.
Not worrying about cooking, cleaning, bills, and other things that have to be done. Just sit there, and have family time, putting all other things aside. I hardly do this, and it's perhaps the most important thing I should be doing each day.

So, here's my written reminder to myself. And if you catch me slipping, maybe shoot me an email to keep me on top of it.

What are your goals for this year?
:)
